France, 1953.It has been ten years since I last worked in this chateau. I act as if I have never been here before. I pretend to care for Martin Sinclair, shrivelled and burned from a bomb in Berlin. I adjust his pillows, feed him his meals. But although he is frail, his light green eyes are just as sharp as they have always been. As they scrutinise my face, I hold my breath.
